FOR MATERIAL DONORS AND PARTNERS
DONATING MATERIALS
Within the framework of our procurement policy, we accept archives from associations and other actors whose activities are related to the social democratic labour movement, the workers’ movement, the progressive cooperative movement or other social movements, such as the human rights work focusing on minorities. The material may consist of documents, photographs, posters or digital materials of organisations or individuals. Procurement decisions are always made on a case-by-case basis and are influenced by the procurement policy and the division of work agreed with other tradition institutions. Contact us to find out if the Finnish Labour Archives is the right place for your archival materials.
You can deliver smaller collections of material to our premises during our opening hours. Donations of larger amounts of material must be agreed separately. Please note that all materials must be delivered and handed over directly. We are happy to advise on matters related to the handover, such as the safe packaging and transportation of materials.
An agreement is made upon handing over the materials. With the agreement, the right of ownership, use and management of the materials is transferred to the Finnish Labour Archives. The archive has the right to screen the materials or hand it over to another cultural heritage institution.
The Finnish Labour Archives does not conserve objects in its collections. Objects can be offered to the collections of the Finnish Labour Museum Werstas in Tampere.
ORGANISING THE DONATED ARCHIVES
It is recommended that at least a superficial inventory is made of the materials before handing them over to the archive. It is also a recommended to screen out documents that are only kept for a fixed period, such as receipts, before handing the materials over. The archive’s personnel organises and catalogues the donated materials before they are made available for research.
Please contact us if you have any questions about organising the materials.
